Setting Up a Closed Testing Track

Configure email lists, upload App Bundles, and invite testers correctly.

Closed testing is a key milestone for launching any Android application. It allows you to distribute your app to a controlled group of users via the Google Play Store, ensuring your builds are stable, secure, and ready for public production.

1. Creating the Closed Testing Track

To create your track, navigate to your app in the Google Play Console:

  1. Go to Release > Testing > Closed testing.
  2. Click Create track and enter a track name (e.g., "Alpha Closed").
  3. Set up the country availability for your track.

2. Managing Tester Lists

In closed testing, only users added to your designated email list can opt-in. Under the "Testers" tab:

  • Select or create an email list.
  • Add email addresses (separated by commas).
  • Provide a feedback URL or email so testers can report issues.
Pro Tip: Copy the join link ("Join on the web" or "Join on Android") and distribute it directly to your testers. They must accept the invitation using that link before they can download the app from Google Play.

3. Uploading Your App Bundle

Create a new release within your closed testing track and upload your Signed Android App Bundle (AAB). Complete the release details, review the pre-launch reports, and click Start rollout to Closed testing.
